What is BNC Scaffold

The BNC scaffold made from 100% bacterial nanocellulose is a dietary fibre (nata de coco), therefore making it an edible part of the cultured animal product. The BNC scaffold can be produced in various three-dimensional shapes and sizes as required. This BNC scaffold is totally biodegradable, the process is environmentally friendly and uses non-hazardous chemicals.

The BNC scaffold’s properties of biocompatibility, high porosity and extremely large surface area are important to culture mammalian cells. Being an open cell scaffold with interconnecting pores, it permits fluid and air flow through the structure, while allowing the cells to grow within and on the matrix.

Made from 100% nata de coco cellulose, this all-natural scaffold is an edible and dietary fibre. The nano-fibres have diameters ranging from 20-100nm, which gives the BNC Sheets a very large surface area for cell attachment. The BNC Sheet has excellent mechanical and thermal stability and the porosity can be modified.
